Most of us go to work every day without worrying about a workplace accident. We go about our duties with confidence, knowing that we will be returning home when our day is done. Sadly, a Milwaukee man will not have that privilege ever again, due to a workplace accident that took his life earlier this month.
A 58-year-old man is said to have worked for the same technologies company for more than 30 years. The accident occurred about 5:20 am, when the press he was working with fell on him. Reportedly, one of the cables broke, causing it to crush the man's head. The Milwaukee emergency crew that responded to the scene could do nothing more than lift the press off the man and declare him dead.
While the accident is still under investigation, investigators will be trying to determine what caused the cables to break. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will also conduct an investigation, which is normal procedure when an industrial accident occurs. OSHA often investigates workplace injuries to determine if there was a violation of safety codes contributing to or directly causing an accident.
Unfortunately, this tragedy is a relatively frequent occurrence for those individuals who work in the construction industry as well as other dangerous jobs. The victim's family benefit from a consultation with an attorney experienced in the handling of workers' compensation claims. The estate of the deceased worker is entitled to recover for the injuries sustained. An attorney intent on helping families of victims suffering a wrongful death at work can answer questions and help plan the appropriate course of legal action.
